Eagle Outreach Ministries relies on the support of volunteers and businesses throughout the King County, Washington area. The generosity with which you give – both in prayers, time, and money – provides much needed support of our programs for children of incarcerated parents. As you can imagine, it takes a lot of resources to provide Angel Tree kids an opportunity to experience 40 hours of Godly life skills at camp with Christian counselors and role models. Our vision is to make sure that every child with a parent in prison has that opportunity.
This season we are trusting God to bring enough volunteers to help us take 100 children to camp.
2008 Summer Camp Schedule
This season we are trusting God to bring enough volunteers to help us get 100 kids to camp. You are invited to chaperone on the following trips:
- Sunday 7/6 – Friday 7/11: Junior High (grade 6-9) at Lake Retreat Camp
- Sunday 7/13 – Friday 7/18: Junior (grade 3-6) at Lake Retreat Camp
- Sunday 7/13 – Friday 7/18: High School (grade 9-12) at Lake Retreat Camp
- Sunday 7/20 – Saturday 7/26: Junior (grade 3-6) at Warm Beach Camp
- Sunday 8/3 – Saturday 8/9: Junior (grade 4-6) at Warm Beach Camp
- Sunday 8/17 – Saturday 8/23: Junior (grade 4-6) at Warm Beach Camp
As a volunteer chaperone, you may sign up for one or more trips. When you sign up for both a departure and return trip, then you get to witness first hand how a week at camp can transform these children. For more information or to sign up, please e-mail at chaperones@eagleoutreach.org or call John at 206-329-5903.
How It Works
The families whose children were given gifts during the previous Christmas season are contacted by volunteers to inquire if their camp-age children would be interested in attending summer camp for one week. Many families already have expressed interest in camping when our volunteers visited during Christmas.
Once we finalize the registrations, Eagle Outreach Ministries prepares a camping package for each child. We provide transportation to camp, assist in check-in, and then release the children to the custody of the camp. When the week is over, we pick up the children and return them home.
Each camper gets:
- An all expense paid week of summer camp
- Transportation to-and-from camp
- A back pack that contains a Bible, disposable camera, personal items such as lotion, sun tan screen, comb, brush, etc (worth over $25)
- Camp T-shirt
- Sleeping bag (if needed)
- $10 credit at the camp store
- Camp video and/or group photo
- Celebration Dairy Queen meal on the return trip to home
This camping package costs about $400 for each child. Only about 30% of the families can afford the $40 deposit per child (Maximum $80 per family) that we ask of them.
Volunteer Opportunities
This summer Angel Tree children will register for one of several camp weeks. This will require bus or van rides departing to and returning from camp. Our goal is to have one-adult to four-child ratio. This gives us a need to have four to six chaperones on each trip.
The trips taking children to camp usually leave about noon on Sunday – we are back no later than 6 p.m. The return trips are either Friday or Saturday (depending on the camp session schedule). For the return trips we leave at 8 a.m. and are back by 6 p.m.
Are you ready to volunteer? E-mail at chaperones@eagleoutreach.org or call John at 206-329-5903.
We need a team of volunteers to make Angel Tree Camping a success. Each team has a coordinator assigned who will provide detailed instructions for the volunteers. You will never be left alone to figure it out for yourself. To encourage other volunteers and help us coordinate all the activities, we request that you sign up as early as possible.
- Prayer Team: We need your prayers for
- Volunteers and families - Pray for their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Pray for God’s wisdom and truth to prevail.
- Children and families - Pray that they will get registered and attend. Pray for their health and well being. Pray that God will prepare their hearts to be changed by the love of Jesus.
- Camp staff - Pray that the staff will allow God to use them in whatever manner he chooses. Pray for the health of the staff and that God’s love and wisdom will flow from the staff as they work with the children.
- Telephoning Team
Many of our Angel Tree families have already shown an interest in having their children go to camp. We need volunteers who can maintain contact with the families to help them sign up for camp week and remind them of the transportation schedules, locations, etc. The telephone team is the link between the families and Angel Tree Camping.
- Transportation Team
We need busses, vans, and drivers. Without these volunteers, the vehicles (and children) won’t get to camp. We need enough drivers for 12 trips.
- Chaperone Team
Chaperones are needed to accompany the children to and from camp. This is perhaps the most fun and exciting time of the whole ministry. We need four to six chaperones on each trip. We also need helpers to get children signed up and on the right bus, with all the gear!
- Angel Tree Stayover
The Angel Tree Camp Stayover program is designed to help Angel Tree children identify and understand their feelings and learn various ways to express difficult emotions in positive and healthy ways. By staying over one more day, we have the opportunity to address the unique and specific issues and feelings children experience as a result of having a parent in prison.
Volunteers are needed to help with preparation and to assist with small and large group activities. If you would like to spend time sharing God’s love with children, you won’t want to miss this opportunity!
- Gear Team
The volunteers get the camping gear (sleeping bags, personal items, etc) sponsored either through promotion activities at churches or through businesses. The team collects and sorts the camp gear into the camp tote bags. The final task includes distributing the prepared camp gear when the children leave for camp.
- Administration Team
There are many areas where we could use more help: writers, editors, newsletter editors, graphics, promoting in your church or small group, bulk mailings, fund raising, and photographers.
There is no greater role than to use the talents God has given you to help the fatherless (James 1:27). "Do not hinder the children to come to me." - Mark 10:14
- Financial Support Team
It takes about $400 for a week of camp for each child. This includes all expenses to promote the ministry, inform and register children, transportation, scholarships, office supplies, and mailings. You may give one time or monthly by check to:
